DFD Russell Medical Center has participated in the Maine Chronic Pain Collaborative (MCPC). Improving patient safety and patient outcomes by improving chronic pain management and quality of care provided to patients is the goal of MCPC.
Whole Person Care
Delivering the highest quality care and utilizing best practices in pain management have resulted in the change of many of our protocols and procedures. New approaches of pain management include:
- Encouraging patients to engage in physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
Adopting these methods of pain management allows DFD to avoid contributing to the increasing problem of narcotic overuse, abuse and diversion. It’s important to keep our communities safe while improving chronic pain management and promoting safe opioid prescribing.
