DFD Russell Medical Center is pleased to offer obstetrical care at our Leeds office. Obstetrical care (care throughout pregnancy) is made available through an agreement with Central Maine OB/GYN in Lewiston at Central Maine Medical Center. A nurse midwife is here to see you throughout your pregnancy and you will be assisted by one of the midwives in the group when you deliver your baby. There are currently three nurse midwives in the Central Maine OB/GYN group that rotate labor and delivery call. There are also four physicians in the CMOB group that work closely with the midwives.
What is a nurse midwife: Nurse midwives have special training in the care of normal, low risk pregnancies and view pregnancy as a natural, normal process. Nurse midwives also provide "well woman" care, including annual gyn exams and contraception. Our midwives and physicians at both DFD Russell Medical Center and Central Maine OB/GYN work as a team to provide the very best care and support for you and your family. www.midwife.org

A woman is usually pregnant for 40 weeks but we consider a pregnancy that lasts 38 to 42 weeks within the normal range.
From your first prenatal visit (around 10 weeks) until 28 weeks you should be seen once a month.
From 28 weeks until 36 weeks you should be seen every two weeks.
From 36 weeks until you deliver you should be seen every week.
