Meet DFD Russell Medical Centers

The DFD Russell Medical Center (DFDRMC) was started in 1975 as an independent public/private partnership by concerned residents of Leeds, Maine and the 6 surrounding towns following the death of the area's only physician, Dr. Daniel Frank Davis Russell. The Medical Center was named after Dr. Russell and was formed to provide affordable and accessible health care to its area residents. It is guided by a 9 member Board of Directors comprised of patients and residents from the service area with patient services provided by 5 physicians, 2 nurse practitioners, 2 mental health providers, 2 physician assistants and a certified nurse midwife. DFDRMC providers utilize an electronic medical record system to enhance the quality of care, improve patient safety, and track clinical outcomes.

The Russell Medical Center provides a full range of adult primary and pediatric care, including obstetrics, case management, 24/7 on call availability for established patients, mental health counseling, minor surgery, CLIA waived lab testing and comprehensive pharmacy services. Mental health and substance abuse services are integrated within the primary care practice through the employment of mental health providers who regularly consult with the primary care providers to coordinate care and improve clinical and social outcomes for patients. The Center also operates a 340B, low cost prescription program at all three centers where qualified patients are charged for medications and services according to a sliding fee scale.

The three facilities are open five days per week, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays with two open nights at Turner and Leeds and one evening in Monmouth. In an effort to increase access DFD has recently expanded to include weekend hours in Leeds, the central site, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The DFDRMC model emphasizes patient and community education as a vehicle for compliance, prevention, early detection and screenings.  DFDRMC is a participating member of the Diabetes Health Disparities Collaborative, QualityCounts!, Pathways to Excellence, and the Maine Health Data Organization and utilizes best practices and performance improvement processes throughout all its clinical operations.
